How Tarot Can Benefit Your Mental Health

From Lindsay “Linds” Valley LCSW, specializing in complex trauma healing, binge eating disorder, and emotion regulation since 2016

All of my clients have a tarot practice or they’re curious about starting a tarot practice. I’m always up front that I’m not a tarot practitioner, but I am a trauma therapist who practices tarot & can help you navigate that journey if you wish to pursue it and incorporate it into your therapy sessions, as it’s a value/ practice/ belief that’s important to you, therefore integral to your healing & understanding your own story ❤️✨

Here’s how Tarot Benefits Your Mental Health:

Tarot is rich with symbols, illustrations, storytelling and metaphors… which can help us process hard to reach thoughts and emotions.

Storytelling and metaphors are gentle tools for getting us out of our logical, critical minds and into a state more open to new perspectives and even holding space for multiple truths at the same time.

Anytime we practice tarot, we flex this muscle.

In complex trauma, intergenerational & historical family trauma, emotions themselves can become triggering.

Our brain is so good at protecting us that over time, we associate emotions with traumatic experiences which can lead to chronically avoiding emotions in our everyday lives altogether…

Making it difficult to dip into our internal worlds.

Tarot can be an excellent, flexible, and gentle tool to begin the practice of checking in with yourself, dipper into your emotions…

Tarot, the deck itself and the practice of pulling cards and even setting the card somewhere safe can be an effective container for those emotions and your process <3
